To our men and women in uniform, I salute you.  And I salute those who have proudly worn the uniform in the past.  You all have done something that not everyone could do.  And for that I respect and thank you.

The Expendables

When I first heard about this movie, I had my doubts.  But it could very well be a fun time.

quick story idea ...

I jotted down a story idea I had just now, but it's so much a rough draft.  It's only the start, but I think I can make it much better than this.

HTML clipboardHTML clipboard

I remember what it was like to be young and in love.  That feeling that you have when you look into your lover’s eyes that everything is going to be okay.  I remember the feeling of her hair when I’d hold her head lightly when I kissed her.  Her scent, those lips, the way that she wrapped her arms around me as she kissed me … I remember kissing her that last time, the longing in her kisses turning to horror as she felt the blade enter her lungs from the side.  The way she pulled back from me with that confused look in her eyes as I pulled the blade out and stabbed it into her other side.  I remember the blood coming out of her mouth as I lightly pushed her into the lake, watching as she floated slowly away, her blonde hair getting darker as her blood flowed into the water around her.  I remember the feeling of the tears as they ran down my face; hot streaks that flowed down my cheeks and dropped to the dock below.

They called it initiation; I called it cold hearted.  But it was what I was called upon to do to join The Assassin’s Guild.  Quite a foul thing to ask a youngster of 14 to do, but they had to make sure that I had the stomach to do such things.  I dreamt about that night for many nights to come, but soon it faded into the recesses of my mind.  Showing weakness in my profession could get you killed, more than likely by your fellow assassins than anyone else.  In the 5 years that had passed since that fateful day, I had hardened myself to the cruel world that I was in.

Tonight’s mark brought back my thoughts on young love as I watched the two of them dance under the moonlight, also lit up by bonfires.  I had followed them from a distance all day, from the grand wedding ceremony to the feast and dance that followed.  My orders were very specific; the quarry was not to be killed until after midnight, something to do with not killing someone on their actual wedding day.  I didn’t mind, I get paid great rates and the longer I’m on the job, the more my price is.

I check my timepiece and see that it is now 12:01, the perfect time to strike.  The happy couple dances in the distance without a care in the world as I bring the rifle up to my shoulder.  I look through the scope and steady my breathing, getting the motion of the couple down so I can adjust my shot if needed.  The groom has his back to me as I squeeze the trigger, sending the round into the back of his head.  The top half of his head disintegrates and the force of the shot sends him forward into his bride.  I can hear her scream as I put the rifle in its special case and lock it.  I exit the tower through the back window and repel down the side of the building.

I walk calmly towards another building where my motorcycle is kept.  I put on my riding clothes and pull my helmet down onto my head as I push my motorcycle out the other side of the building.  I can hear sirens off in the distance, and I smirk to myself a bit, since I realize that it will still take them a long time to get here.  The response time in this side of town is abysmal at best, and most of the police force would be busy on another side of town.

I start my cycle and ride down the street, making a huge circuit and driving by the scene of the crime.  As I drive by, I see the bride sitting on the ground, her gown and face covered in blood.  She is in hysterics as I drive calmly by the wedding dance.  I continue my drive for a few blocks and hang a sharp left, driving nonchalantly towards the club section of town.  As I get one block away, I hear the sound of an explosion in the distance.

I grin to myself a bit as I imagine the tower I left a few minutes ago is now engulfed in flames.  They can do all they want on the forensic shows on television, but it would be impossible to find any evidence left behind by me.  The rifle itself was a special one-shot item developed by the lab boys that was locked into a case lined with phosphorous.  The metal was brittle enough after the charge had been used to propel the projectile that it would be nothing more than a pile of goo by the time the fire department got the blaze under control, although I had lined the place with enough propellant that it probably would be a pile of ash by the time they got there.

I make my way through the club district at a decent pace, as not to draw attention to myself.  People would be surprised by how well a person can hide in plain sight.  I make a few turns here and there and finally make my way to my destination.  I pull my cycle next to a storage facility and park, getting off the cycle and unlocking one of the garage doors.  I open the door and push my cycle in, placing my riding leathers on top of it before exiting, locking the door behind me.  I walk away into the darkness, whistling to myself a bit as I make my way a few blocks away to the docks.

There is a boat waiting for me there, and I walk aboard the boat while the crew unmoors it and we head out onto the water.  My employer for the evening is there, and he asks me if the job is completed.  I nod, and he pushes a suitcase towards me.  Normally I would just open it and count my money, but something about this sets off my senses.  I push it back towards him and tell him to open it.

He tries to pull a weapon out of his coat pocket but I’m too quick for him, jumping across the distance and hitting him with a well-placed elbow strike to the throat.  He falls to the ground gurgling as I jump past him and head out a doorway into a hall.  I surprise one of his bodyguards with a takedown and knee to the neck.  I hear a snap as I roll through and make my way warily but quickly down the hallway.  I climb the stairs silently and crouch as I make my way around a corner, taking another guard down with a trip and tackle maneuver and choking him out.  I make my way towards the engine room and enter, stealthily making my way towards the engine compartment.  I pull lose some fuel lines and watch as they spurt fuel all over the place.

I hear some shouts in the distance and know I have to make this quick.  I grab an emergency flare and strike it, throwing it into the pile of fuel as I exit the compartment.  I mutter to myself about how my bosses told me this was a routine job and to trust the client fully as I make my way down yet another hallway.  I run around a corner and a man in front of me yells “Stop!” as I jump in the air and plant my knee into his nose.  He goes down like a poleaxed cow as don’t break stride and make my way up onto the deck.    As I sprint across the deck, I roll past another attempt to stop me as I strike the man in the groin and then headbutt him in the nose, sending him down as I run towards freedom.

Suddenly I feel a pain in my side as I roll behind cover.  I pull a familiar looking implement from my side; one of the throwing weapons that we use and I knew I had been set up.  I hear someone laughing and I know the voice right away.  “Clancy, you double crossing bastard!” I yell out at the top of my voice.  “I should have known it was you.”  The laughter stops and I hear him say, “Show yourself, kid.    You know that that sting you pulled from your side was dosed in poison.  You’re dead without the antidote, so why not come forward?”  I grit my teeth and slow my breathing, as excitement will speed up my heart rate and send the poison through my bloodstream quicker.  I reached into my boot and pulled out one of my own stings, only this one was specially designed by me.  I throw my sting with all my strength blindly and listen as it plants itself into something wooden.

I hear Clancy laugh and make a statement about my poor aim as I inch forward and come into contact with the edge of the boat.  I hear a small explosion, as the fire I started in the engine compartment had gotten more extreme.  I use that point in time to propel myself over the edge of the boat and I hit the cold water like a rock.  With the way I feel right now, I know that I only have a few moment of consciousness left.  I hear Clancy yell out “What the …” and I dive below the water before my specially designed sting exploded.  I had made it with an experimental explosive that was around 10 times stronger than C4, and I had a smile on my face as I felt myself drifting away.  I was having difficulty focusing and couldn’t move my arms and legs, but as I drifted off I had the feeling that I had taken care of the bastard.  As I rose to the surface, I noticed that the boat … well yacht that I had been on was fairly well splintered.  I tried to keep my face above water, but I was sure that I was done for.
